When the Baldur's Gate TV show was announced in 2025, people quickly became suspicious when it was confirmed that developer Larian has no involvement in it.
Actor Samantha Béart, known for her role in Baldur's Gate 3, shared a positive update about the live-action series. Craig Mazin, leading the TV adaptation, expressed his desire for the key cast members of the game to have a significant presence in the show, whether reprising familiar roles or taking on new characters. This move aligns with Mazin's approach for The Last of Us TV show, where he also incorporated actors from the original game.
Prior to this, Larian's Swen Vincke mentioned Mazin's admiration for the game, leading to discussions with the studio. The upcoming HBO series, set post-game events, faces the challenge of choosing a narrative path from the multiple game endings. Vincke highlighted that the game's endings were designed as a narrative foundation for future stories, expressing curiosity about Mazin's creative direction.
Despite Larian's lack of official involvement in the TV show due to ending ties with Wizards of the Coast, the studio is gearing up for a new Divinity game. While initial use of generative AI in development sparked backlash, the final game assures fans that it will not feature any such content, as confirmed by Larian.
