Star Citizen has crossed the $1 billion funding raised barrier — a significant milestone for the space sim that came shortly after a new $5,000 virtual spaceship you can't fly in-game went on sale.
Developer Cloud Imperium Games publicly tracks funding on its website, revealing a recent surge that pushed total funding over $1 billion. The DefenseCon event introduced the Anvil Odin capital ship, priced at $5,000, for pre-order. This massive ship, not yet playable, requires applicants to join the Odin Founders Club by submitting essays.
Successful club members will eventually gain access to the Anvil Odin, a colossal battlecruiser designed for large player crews. While the ship is not flyable yet, its sale marks a significant milestone in Star Citizen's development journey.
Additionally, the single-player spinoff Squadron 42, featuring stars like Mark Hamill and Gillian Anderson, is nearing launch according to CIG chief Chris Roberts. Roberts likened the project to James Cameron's work on Avatar, expressing excitement for players to experience the game soon.
