When Epilogue released its first device, the GB Operator, back in 2021, it gave retro game collectors a way to save their favorite games.
Epilogue's latest offering, the SN Operator, is designed to provide the same convenience but for Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games. Priced at $60, this 16-bit banger simplifies the process of playing or backing up SNES games with its user-friendly setup. The device, which comes with a single USB cable for connection, is compatible with PCs running Linux and Apple operating systems.
With the SN Operator, users can easily back up both game data and save files from their cartridges, thanks to the fast transfer speeds of USB Type-C. The Playback software, utilizing the bSNES emulator, offers various features such as multiple shaders, cartridge autosaving, cheats, and customizable settings. The device ensures compatibility with official SNES games, although it may encounter issues with unofficial reproductions or specialty carts like the Super Game Boy.
Epilogue has prioritized the back-up functionality of the SN Operator, emphasizing the importance of preserving save files from beloved games. While the device is well-constructed and offers a seamless experience for users, some may find the cartridge insertion and removal to be challenging due to a tight fit.
