Disappointing Launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Remasters on

The first two Call of Duty: Black Ops games have launched on PS5 and PS4, but they're not exactly the remasters that fans were expecting.

Both games come with a price tag of $40 each, with DLC packs sold separately, which is unusual for remasters. The technical upgrades are minimal, with the games running at 1080p on PS5 and PS4, lacking 4K support, 120Hz frame rates, improved graphics, or quality-of-life enhancements found in modern titles. In contrast, Xbox Series X|S players get resolution upgrades for free through backward compatibility, while PC users have had mods for years.

Each game costs $40, with map packs priced at $30 each, totaling $70 per game. PlayStation Plus members get a discount, reducing the price to $20 per game and $10 per map pack. Despite this, the lack of substantial improvements makes the price steep. Digital Foundry criticized the preservation of visual flaws from the original games, questioning the decision not to enhance graphics given current technology capabilities.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to release later this year for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 on October 23, unlike Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7, which won't be available on Game Pass at launch.
