ZeniMax Online Studios Addresses Concerns After Xbox Layoffs

The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios has moved to reassure concerned fans that it is still committed to the game despite the impact of significant layoffs at Xbox.

The recent layoffs at Xbox, affecting ZeniMax Online Studios (ZOS) and ZeniMax Media Inc., have raised concerns about the future of The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). Despite the layoffs, Bethesda's boss, Jill Braff, emphasized the need for a shift in strategy to ensure sustainable growth and investment in key franchises. Developers at ZOS have confirmed that the team size is now back to the level when popular DLCs like Wrothgar (2015) and Summerset (2018) were created.

Assurances from ZOS include plans to continue delivering quality content for ESO and collaborating with Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) to support The Elder Scrolls franchise. Similar to id Software, also impacted by the Xbox layoffs, ZOS remains optimistic about its ability to create great games despite the challenges.

While the positive messages from ZOS and id Software aim to reassure fans, the ongoing layoffs at Xbox continue to cause anxiety among employees. The industry waits to see the full impact on studios like Bethesda and the future development of highly anticipated titles such as The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5.
