Circana, formerly NPD, has released its latest monthly sales report for the US video game industry, and one key takeaway was that Xbox was the only console platform to grow in sales during the month.
Circana, previously known as NPD, reported that Xbox Series X|S unit sales increased by 86% in June 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. This marked the best month of 2026 for Xbox Series X|S sales, with the previous year's sales impacted by a price hike in May. On the other hand, the newly launched Switch 2 experienced a 78% decline in unit sales in June 2026 versus June 2025 due to the strong initial sales upon its launch. Meanwhile, PS5 unit sales dropped by 43% year-over-year in June 2026.
Xbox Series X|S hardware sales more than doubled in dollar terms, while Switch 2 hardware spending plummeted by 79% and PS5 sales dipped by 19%. Despite Xbox's significant growth, the overall hardware spending in the US declined by 62% to $383 million in June 2026. The Switch 2 emerged as the best-selling platform in June 2026 based on both unit and dollar sales, maintaining its lead as the top-selling platform in 2026 overall, followed by PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. In terms of game sales, UFC 6 secured the top spot as the best-selling game in the US for June 2026, while Resident Evil Requiem continues to lead as the best-selling game of 2026 to date.
