Since the debut of the Xbox One in 2013, Microsoft has been making subtle adjustments to its Xbox Controller design. The latest Forza Horizon 6 Xbox Controller has removed the expansion port, leaving only the standard auxiliary port. This alteration indicates a potential permanent change in the design direction. Previously, the controller featured a proprietary expansion port before transitioning to a standard auxiliary port in 2015. This port served various functions beyond headset connectivity, supporting audio controllers and chat pads. Despite the lack of recent accessories utilizing the expansion port, Microsoft might be phasing it out in future controller iterations. Leak reports on the Xbox Elite Controller 3 suggest that Microsoft is integrating audio controllers directly into the design. Additionally, a smaller Xbox controller leak hints at direct internet connectivity for reduced lag during game streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft's future console, codenamed Project Helix, could bring further changes to the Xbox controller design.
