Xbox Confirms Gamescom Attendance Amid Uncertain Future

The summer of gaming continues with Xbox confirming its presence at Gamescom in August amid growing uncertainty about its future.

Microsoft's gaming division will once again have a presence at the Koelnmesse, but it's pushing ahead with these plans while its future looks increasingly uncertain. Xbox's Gamescom showcase will feature Gears of War: E-Day as a playable title on the showfloor, with a dedicated showcase following Geoff Keighley's Gamescom Opening Night Live event. Following the June Xbox Games Showcase, the broadcast is expected to include new looks at upcoming games and Game Pass announcements.

Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, will also mark the first stop for the Xbox FanFest event, part of the global tour celebrating Xbox's 25th anniversary. Despite positive external messaging, reports suggest internal turmoil at Xbox, with analysts claiming upcoming exclusives like Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution might be set up to fail. Speculations of staff layoffs and studio closures are circulating, with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma hinting at imminent changes needed for Xbox to become a sustainable business for Microsoft. Studios like Compulsion Games, Double Fine, and Ninja Theory are rumored to be facing closures, although there's a possibility of them spinning off from Xbox.
