Former head of Burnout developer Criterion Games Fiona Sperry is doubling down on 2025’s Wreckreation by announcing a sequel is on the way.
The unexpected announcement of Wreckreation 2 comes shortly after the lukewarm reception of the original game, which led to the entire team at Three Fields Entertainment facing redundancy. Despite the closure of the studio, the sequel is in development at a new studio named When Tides Turn, comprising veterans from Three Fields Entertainment.
Set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, Wreckreation 2 is undergoing development, with a focus on urban environments unlike its predecessor's rural setting. The game aims to capture the essence of Burnout Paradise, drawing inspiration from its gameplay and presentation.
IGN's review of the first Wreckreation criticized its handling and repetitive gameplay, likening it to a generic version of superior arcade racers. The sequel's development is still in its early stages, with no confirmed release date yet.
