World of Warcraft Sequel to Corrupted Blood Outbreak

A deadly plague spread through World of Warcraft's Moonguard server over the weekend, making it the second time in WoW history a horrific virus has run uncontrolled through the game's populace.

A recent plague outbreak in World of Warcraft originated from the Dragonflight dungeon, Brackenhide Hollow. The plague, known as Withering Contagion, caused heavy nature damage over time and spread rapidly among players within close proximity. An inadvertent player carried the contagion out of the dungeon, leading to its spread across Alliance territory and Silvermoon City. Lower-level players succumbed quickly, fueling the contagion's reach to areas like Stormwind and the Goldshire inn in Elwynn Forest.

Referred to as "Corrupted Blood 2.0" by players, this incident mirrors a similar event in 2005 involving the Zul'Gurub raid's Corrupted Blood mechanic. The recent plague, however, was swiftly addressed by Blizzard through a hotfix on July 3, unlike the weeks it took to manage the original Corrupted Blood outbreak. The developers also address issues related to private servers and potential leaks about the future of Warcraft.
