Valve Facilitates Building Custom Steam Machines

Valve's Pierre-Loup Griffais shared that the recently launched SteamOS 3.8.10 aims to enhance compatibility with desktop hardware, particularly the latest Intel and AMD platforms. By installing SteamOS on a PC similar to a Steam Machine setup, users can achieve an experience akin to a docked Steam Deck or Steam Machine.
Although SteamOS lacks Nvidia driver support currently, Valve is working closely with Nvidia to address this. While building a high-end PC comparable to a Steam Machine may not offer significant cost savings compared to the $1,049 model, custom builds can potentially overcome some of the Steam Machine's limitations in video memory and graphical power. Valve plans to implement a new randomized invitation system post the closure of the initial reservation list on June 25 to deter bots and resellers from acquiring Steam Machines.
