Valve Discusses Steam Machine's Price, Performance, and Availability

Just a couple months after Valve launched the Steam Controller, the Steam Machine has finally arrived. And while the fledgling mini-pc/console hybrid is a bit more expensive than we once thought it would be, Valve was able to still able to get it in at a somewhat reasonable price – at least for a mini PC.

Valve recently discussed the Steam Machine with Engineers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Yazan Aldehayyat, highlighting the custom components that helped maintain its price point. Despite the higher cost, Valve focused on value engineering to strike a balance between performance and affordability.

They emphasized the challenges of hardware shortages affecting availability more than price, with efforts to streamline the purchase experience. While predicting demand remains uncertain, the team is committed to replenishing units quickly to meet consumer needs.
