The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine Almost Had a Different Name

The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion nearly had a different name.

CD Projekt's Pawel Sasko revealed that the expansion was initially named Bells of Beauclair, or BoB internally. However, the developers eventually decided on the more captivating title of Blood and Wine, believing it better reflected the narrative's spirit. The expansion, which marked its 10th anniversary on May 31, 2016, was a massive undertaking for the team. Sasko praised the effort put into creating a new country, main story, characters, monsters, mechanics, and more, all contributing to Geralt's final journey.

Sasko expressed his amazement at the enduring popularity of Blood and Wine, acknowledging the team's exceeded expectations. He thanked the developers for their work and the players for their continued support. Following the success of The Witcher 3 and its expansions, CD Projekt Red announced a new expansion, Songs of the Past, set to precede The Witcher 4. Despite upcoming projects like The Witcher 4, 5, and 6, CD Projekt Red indicated that expansions for these titles are unlikely.
