The Devil Wears Prada 2 Dominates Box Office Against Mortal Kombat II,

Mortal Kombat II brought in $40 million domestically and $23 million internationally for a box office global opening weekend of $63 million.

The sequel Mortal Kombat II, featuring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, had a strong opening weekend, earning $63 million worldwide, with the majority coming from North American theaters. Despite not yet being released in some key international markets, the film is on track to surpass its predecessor's global earnings of $84.4 million. With a production cost of $80 million, Mortal Kombat II still has some ground to cover to break even during its theatrical run. Warner Bros. has already confirmed plans for a third installment in the franchise.

Receiving mixed reviews, Mortal Kombat II currently holds a 65% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8/10 rating from IGN. The film has been praised for exceeding expectations in the realm of video game movie sequels. However, it faced tough competition from The Devil Wears Prada 2, which raked in an impressive $118.8 million during its second weekend, reaching a total of $433.2 million worldwide. The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues to lead the global box office charts, maintaining its top position both domestically and internationally.

Other notable performers at the box office include the biopic Michael, which earned $95 million this past weekend, bringing its total global earnings to $577.3 million. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has crossed the $941.2 million mark, with speculation on whether it will achieve the coveted $1 billion milestone. Project Hail Mary, still going strong after eight weeks, has accumulated $655.7 million globally. Amazon's decision to extend its theatrical run has sparked talks of potential sequels or spinoffs for the film, although author Andy Weir's involvement in any future adaptations remains a key factor.
