Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has ordered the GTA 5 modding platform Rage: MP to cease operations.
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has ordered the GTA 5 modding platform Rage: MP to cease operations.
The developers of Rage: MP announced the shutdown following a formal request from Take-Two Interactive, citing their own modding platform, FiveM, as the sole authorized platform for GTA V multiplayer modding. Server operators have until August 31, 2026, to transition to FiveM before Rage: MP discontinues its services.
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have a history with the GTA modding community, with past controversies over modding in GTA 5. Despite initial concerns, Rockstar later embraced mods, leading to the acquisition of Cfx.re, the developers behind FiveM, in August 2023. This move fueled speculation that modding would play a significant role in GTA 6.
While fans eagerly await GTA 6's release on November 19, Take-Two has hinted at extensive marketing plans for the game. The company is taking a firm stance against platforms like Rage: MP to ensure a smooth launch for the highly anticipated title.
