Subnautica 2 Legal Settlement Leads to Bonuses and CEO Resignation

After a year of litigation, Krafton Inc. has agreed to pay the Subnautica 2 team bonuses in three annual installments.

The legal troubles surrounding Subnautica 2 have come to an end with a settlement between Krafton Inc. and Unknown Worlds Entertainment. This settlement involves the payment of bonuses to the entire Subnautica 2 team over three years. Following the agreement, CEO Ted Gill has resigned, with both companies now seeking a new CEO from outside. Gill expressed that new leadership is crucial for the studio's future.

Unknown Worlds had filed a lawsuit against Krafton in July 2025 for withholding $250 million in bonuses, leading to delays in the game's development and Gill's initial dismissal. However, a judge's ruling in March 2026 ordered Gill's reinstatement. Despite his exit, the team will receive bonuses as Subnautica 2 continues to receive updates and achieve milestones.

Subnautica 2, released on PC and Xbox Series X|S on May 14, quickly gained popularity with a high player count post-launch and 4 million copies sold within four days. Gill, while no longer part of the company, expressed pride in the game's success.
