Subnautica 2 Dev Teases Upcoming Content Drop with New Region

After all of the drama that played out in court, Subnautica 2 has gotten off to a hot start. There's still work to be done on this early-access release, but Unknown Worlds has now shared some of its plans to improve the game and previewed its next big update.

Subnautica 2 design lead Anthony Gallegos has revealed details about the upcoming content drop, including a new region that will be the home of the Collector Leviathan. This update will bring back a popular player experience with a new chassis, along with fresh creatures and resources. Gallegos hinted at the update being the scariest yet, expressing his excitement for players to try it out.

Unknown Worlds is also planning smaller updates post recent hotfixes, such as adding proximity voice chat and more Biomod options earlier in the game. Players can expect to unlock additional passive slots and notice Blight encounters more easily due to parasite aggression adjustments. The development team is working on allowing players to replay voice logs from their PDAs.

Subnautica 2 has achieved significant success, selling 4 million copies on Xbox Series X|S and PC since its launch, excluding Game Pass players. While currently not available on PlayStation 5, it remains uncertain if and when the game will go cross-platform. The early-access phase for Subnautica 2 is projected to span three years.
