Having recently experienced the new combat system in the upcoming Yakuza prequel, Stranger Than Heaven, it's clear that RGG Studio has made significant changes to the traditional beat 'em up style. The hands-on demo at a BiliBili Game First Look event showcased a more challenging street fighting mechanic that requires players to anticipate attacks and parry effectively. While the learning curve is steep, the revamped combat system offers a more grounded and satisfying experience compared to previous installments.
Despite some issues like occasional slip-ups with the lock-on feature and sluggish heavy weapon attacks, the overall impression of Stranger Than Heaven's combat is positive. With the game set for release early next year, there's still time for RGG Studio to refine and enhance the gameplay further, offering a fresh take on the long-established Like a Dragon formula.
