Despite reports suggesting the cancellation was due to concerns about its appeal beyond the core fanbase, veteran Stargate writer Joseph Mallozzi disputed these claims.

Shanks, known for his role as Daniel Jackson in SG-1, expressed his disagreement with the reasons for the cancellation and highlighted various fan initiatives to reverse Amazon's choice. These efforts include a GoFundMe campaign to fly a #SaveStargate banner over Amazon Studios, as well as Change.org petitions and direct complaints to Amazon. The largest petition currently has over 40,000 signatures.

While Amazon may still be interested in the future of the Stargate franchise, Shanks emphasized that the cancelled revival was fans' best chance for a return involving the original creators and cast members. He encouraged fans to voice their support for the project to ensure the possibility of its revival. The actor's involvement in the revival was never confirmed, but his support for the project has been unwavering.
