Stalker 2 Profits from Xbox Exclusivity Deal

The founder of Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World has revealed that the game turned a profit before its release, thanks to a deal with Microsoft for Xbox exclusivity.

In an interview, GSC Game World founder Sergiy Grygorovych shared that Microsoft was impressed by the Stalker 2 trailer views, leading to negotiations for exclusivity. The game launched on PC and Xbox Series X and S in November 2024, with a PlayStation 5 release following a year later. Stalker 2 sold over 1 million copies in two days and has now reached over 6 million players.

Grygorovych did not disclose the exact amount paid by Microsoft for exclusivity. However, his comments shed light on Microsoft's strategy to bolster Game Pass interest by investing in content. Amid changes in Xbox leadership, the future of Game Pass remains uncertain, with recent staff cuts and reshuffling of studio ownership.

Despite challenges, developers have praised Microsoft for supporting studios through Game Pass and exclusivity deals. However, concerns have been raised about the service's subscriber numbers and financial viability, especially following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $69 billion.
