During the Final Fantasy Fan Festival in Berlin, Naoki Yoshida discussed the possibility of remaking popular titles like Final Fantasy 6, 8, and 9. He acknowledged the immense scale of these games and the challenges in modernizing them for today's audience. Yoshida highlighted that remaking these titles could require multiple installments, similar to the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.

While a remake of Final Fantasy 6, 8, or 9 may not be imminent, Square Enix has shown interest in the HD-2D art style for potential remakes. This style, blending retro pixel-art with modern effects, has been successful in games like Octopath Traveler. The upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance, a reimagining of a mobile game, showcases this art direction.

The development of HD-2D games at Square Enix appears to be more efficient than full 3D remakes, hinting at a possible future project for Final Fantasy 6 in this style. Producer Masaaki Hayasaka has expressed interest in such a project, citing the beloved status of Final Fantasy 6 among fans.
