Sony to Remove Over 550 Digital Movies Owned by PlayStation Users

PlayStation has notified users that it will soon delete more than 550 digital movies from users' PSN accounts due to a licensing agreement with Studio Canal.

Sony has started informing users via email that they will be deleting over 550 digital movies from their PSN accounts following a licensing agreement with Studio Canal. The removal is scheduled for September 1, 2026. The list of affected titles can be viewed on PlayStation's website.

Users who have purchased digital movies through the PlayStation Store are advised to review the list as it includes a mix of popular and lesser-known titles. Notable movies like Apocalypse Now: The Final Cut, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and TV shows such as American Gods Season 1 are among those set to be removed. Despite the impending deletion, there is no mention of refunds or alternatives for affected users.

In a similar move back in December 2023, Sony faced backlash for removing Discovery content from users' accounts. However, following negative feedback, Sony reversed the decision due to updated licensing agreements. This recent announcement has reignited discussions on digital ownership, especially as Sony had previously announced the discontinuation of movie and TV purchases and rentals on the PlayStation Store in 2021.
