Sony has reported a $565 million impairment loss against Bungie, following a previous $204 million write-off last year. This brings the total loss against Bungie's value to $769 million in the last financial year. Despite Sony gaming's strong FY2025 results, the $769 million loss against Bungie's value was highlighted as a major negative factor affecting its operating income. This impairment represents over 20% of the $3.6 billion Sony paid for Bungie in 2022.
The significant write-down does not bode well for Bungie or its current titles. Marathon, one of Bungie's ongoing games, has been experiencing a decline in player numbers since its launch in March. Although the game has a dedicated player base that enjoys its unique style and visuals, there are concerns about its long-term sustainability.
