Sony Ending PlayStation Store Support for PS3 and PS Vita

After nearly two decades of supporting the PS3 console generation, Sony will be closing the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita, with different timelines for various regions.

Sony recently announced plans to end PlayStation disc production by 2028, signaling a shift towards a digital-only future for its consoles. Alongside this, the company will be discontinuing support for the PlayStation Store on the aging PS3 and PS Vita systems. The closure will begin in select markets this year, with a gradual global shutdown scheduled for next year. Despite this move, users will still be able to download previously purchased content post-closure.

In a blog post, Sony's senior director Sid Shuman explained that the PlayStation Store on PS3 will first close in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua in August 2023. Following this, additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries will see the service end in late 2026. By July 2027, the store will cease operations on PS3 and PS Vita in all other countries, as Sony shifts its focus to newer platforms for an enhanced gaming experience.
