Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, has announced the opening of preorders for its inaugural augmented reality (AR) glasses named SPECS. Priced at $2,195, the glasses are set to be shipped in the fall of 2026 to customers in the United States, United Kingdom, and France. The SPECS AR glasses are designed for daily wear, featuring a durable and lightweight Swiss TR90 thermoplastic construction available in two sizes - 47mm and 52mm.
These glasses, weighing 4.6 ounces for the smaller variant, boast advanced optics and an integrated personal wearable computer. Utilizing transparent waveguide technology, SPECS can project UI elements onto the lenses or create a full-color immersive display with a 51-degree field of view. The glasses automatically adjust tint based on lighting conditions and support prescription lenses.
Powered by dual Snapdragon processors and Snap OS 2.0, the glasses incorporate a range of cameras and sensors for computer vision and AI assistance. Snap's AR ecosystem enhances the user experience by providing relevant real-time information. Offering a tetherless experience, SPECS has a battery life of around 4 hours, extendable to 20 hours with the included charging case.
