Seth Rogen, known for his work in comedy films like Superbad and Pineapple Express, expressed his disapproval of using artificial intelligence in scriptwriting. During an interview at Cannes with Brut, Rogen emphasized that writers relying on AI should pursue other endeavors. He highlighted the importance of the creative writing process and criticized the idea of using AI to replace it.
Rogen, who has also ventured into directing and producing, recently worked on Apple TV's The Studio, addressing contemporary Hollywood issues. His upcoming project, 'Tangles,' an animated film on Alzheimer's disease, features a star-studded cast and notably excludes AI from its production. Rogen emphasized the human touch in every aspect of the film, reinforcing his belief in the value of traditional writing methods.
The debate surrounding AI in filmmaking has been ongoing, with notable figures like James Cameron showing openness to AI experimentation while others, including director Gore Verbinski, strongly opposing its use. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has even introduced regulations to restrict AI's role in the Oscars, reflecting the industry's divided opinions on the technology.
