Riot Games Addresses Rumors About Vanguard Anti-Cheat

Riot Games has clarified that its Vanguard anti-cheat does not damage hardware or disable devices, debunking rumors that it could 'brick' PCs.

Riot Games swiftly responded to rumors suggesting that its Vanguard anti-cheat system could render PCs useless for cheaters. The company clarified that the image shared was of cheat hardware devices used explicitly for cheating in VALORANT, not normal PCs or components. Riot emphasized that Vanguard enforces standard security features to prevent cheating devices from accessing memory in games.

The company assured players that Vanguard does not impact PC functionality and explained that cheaters using DMA-based cheats may encounter hardware issues or instability. Riot reiterated its commitment to investing in anti-cheat measures to maintain competitive integrity and transparency about its systems.

In a follow-up post, Riot reiterated that the joke was about Valorant cheating devices, not bricking PCs, and provided guidance for cheaters affected by the anti-cheat measures. The company's efforts to address fan concerns mirror a previous incident in 2024 when similar rumors circulated around Vanguard.
