Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami recently emphasized the importance of creating games that motivate players to experience them firsthand, rather than solely watching playthroughs.

During a late-night Japanese TV show, comedian and gamer Eiko Kano recounted a conversation with Mikami regarding game streamers and spoilers. Mikami expressed that game creators must develop games that motivate players to complete them independently, even if they have watched playthroughs. He encouraged Kano to continue streaming games.

Kano, known for streaming games on YouTube, raised concerns about spoiling games like Resident Evil during livestreams. Mikami's stance mirrors that of Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest, who also emphasized the developer's role in sparking players' interest to engage with the game directly.

Additionally, Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi highlighted the challenge of players opting to watch RPGs rather than play them. He stressed the need for developers to craft experiences that intrigue viewers, prompting them to want to play the game themselves. Mikami's new studio, Unbound, acquired by Stellar Blade developer Shift Up, is set to release a new game, with Mikami hinting at creating a significant project.

Unbound, founded by Mikami after his departure from Tango Gameworks, remains independent and is yet to unveil any projects since its establishment in 2022. Mikami expressed enthusiasm for developing a 'masterpiece of a game' in an announcement video.
