Resident Evil 4 Dominates Current-Gen Remake Sales
The launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has proven that there's still a strong appetite for video game remakes, and at 3.5 million sales and counting, Ubisoft's new game is off to a smashing start.
The launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has proven that there's still a strong appetite for video game remakes, and at 3.5 million sales and counting, Ubisoft's new game is off to a smashing start.
Resident Evil 4's remake continues to reign supreme in the current-generation remake market, boasting lifetime sales of 16.8 million units across PC and consoles. Despite the success of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with 3.5 million sales, it still falls short of the remarkable numbers achieved by Resident Evil 4. The remake's sales figures have surpassed Capcom's other popular titles, including Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
Other notable entries in the current-gen remake sales list include Ark: Survival Ascended with 7 million units sold, The Last of Us Part 1 with 6.3 million sales, and Oblivion Remastered with 4.5 million units sold. Unfortunately, Dead Space, despite reaching 4.3 million units sold, could not prevent the franchise from being put on hold by EA, with no plans for future sequels, remakes, or reboots.
Remakes have become a crucial aspect of the gaming industry, offering publishers a less risky alternative to developing new IPs. Capcom's successful utilization of remakes has not only provided a stable revenue stream but has also led to the creation of acclaimed titles like Pragmata, demonstrating the strategic value of remakes in the modern gaming landscape.
