Despite attempts to flee in a Ford transit van and a subsequent getaway vehicle, the brothers were apprehended at their residence with incriminating evidence linking them to the crimes. The escalating thefts of valuable Pokémon cards have been attributed to their scarcity and high demand, with recent instances of break-ins reported worldwide, prompting The Pokémon Company to address supply shortages.
Nintendo's president acknowledged the challenges posed by card scalping and shortages, hinting at forthcoming measures to combat the issue. The surge in card production in recent years has not sufficed to meet market demand, with the brand's 30th-anniversary set expected to further fuel interest in Pokémon cards, maintaining the trend of targeted thefts and scarcity-driven criminal activities.
