PlayStation seems to be waving the white flag on its PC strategy, at least when it comes to single-player games.
PlayStation is reportedly shifting its strategy back to console exclusivity for first-party narrative-driven single-player games, according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier. This decision means titles like Ghost of Yotei, Saros, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Marvel's Wolverine will remain exclusive to the PS5. The move marks a departure from the recent trend of releasing PlayStation titles on PC after some time.
This change follows approximately six years of PlayStation bringing major titles like God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us series to PC. Despite this, the shift back to console exclusivity for single-player games indicates a reevaluation of the previous strategy's success.
Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida raised concerns over the decision, highlighting the financial benefits of PC releases for big-budget games. Meanwhile, Xbox is also reportedly reconsidering its approach to exclusivity under new leadership, with games like Fable and Forza Horizon 6 confirmed for release on both Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
