PlayStation Details AI Use, Emphasizes Human Creativity

Sony has detailed its strategy for using AI tools in game development, emphasizing the importance of human creativity at the core of PlayStation's creative endeavors.

Sony's CEO, Totoki Hiroki, highlighted AI as a powerful tool but clarified that it does not replace the role of artists or creators in the game development process. The company showcased Mockingbird, an AI-driven tool used by Naughty Dog and San Diego Studio to generate character animations from facial expressions captured during performance.

Moreover, AI was employed in 'Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered' to model the protagonist's hair efficiently by converting real-world hairstyles into a 3D model. This approach significantly reduced the time required for manual modeling. Additionally, AI technology like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is enhancing visual quality on the PS5 Pro, offering improved graphics and frame rates.

Furthermore, Sony leveraged AI for revenue generation through payment routing strategies, resulting in a $700 million boost. AI algorithms are also utilized to provide personalized game recommendations and enhance user experience. Beyond gaming, Sony is using AI for tasks like legal content protection and 3D film footage conversion at Sony Pictures.
