After more than two years in early access, Palworld has launched in 1.0, and there's some good news for anyone looking to dive into it.
Palworld, developed by Pocketpair, has decided not to increase its price post the 1.0 release, keeping it at $29.99 for both PC and console players. The decision comes as a gesture of gratitude towards the players who have supported the game's success. Despite legal challenges from Nintendo, Pocketpair has continued to enhance Palworld with gameplay updates and new content. The company had to make adjustments due to copyright and patent infringement claims from Nintendo, leading to changes in certain gameplay mechanics. Nintendo, in turn, faced scrutiny over attempts to copyright gameplay mechanics used in various games predating Pokemon.
In light of these developments, John A. Squires, the new head of the US Patent and Trademark Office, has ordered a reexamination of Nintendo's patent. Looking ahead, Pocketpair plans to provide ongoing support for Palworld through post-launch updates and is also developing an official card game and a Palworld spin-off. Before the 1.0 release, Palworld had already amassed an impressive player base of 40 million users.
