Obsidian Entertainment Shifts Focus to Develop New Fallout Game

Obsidian Entertainment will reportedly shift strategies to work on a new Fallout game, putting a planned Avowed sequel and other projects on hold.

Obsidian Entertainment, known for titles like Grounded and The Outer Worlds, is said to be redirecting its efforts towards developing a new Fallout game. This move will see projects like the planned Avowed sequel being set aside. It remains uncertain whether the upcoming Fallout title will be Fallout 5 or a spin-off akin to New Vegas.

Reports suggest that a new Fallout game was given the green light about a year ago, with studio design director Josh Sawyer set to lead the project. Sawyer, previously involved in titles like Fallout: New Vegas, will be spearheading this venture. Bethesda, the franchise owner, will also play a role in the development of this new Fallout installment.

However, this decision comes amidst recent layoffs at Obsidian, where up to 25% of the workforce was let go as part of an Xbox reset plan. While announced Xbox games are reportedly unaffected, unannounced projects, including those at Obsidian, are facing cancellations. Despite this, Xbox seems committed to bolstering its major franchises, such as Fallout.
