Nintendo Raises Switch 2 Price to $500

Switch 2 consoles are set to become $50 more expensive starting September. Nintendo states the new price still won't cover all production costs.

Nintendo has officially announced that the price of the Switch 2 will increase by $50 as of September. Despite this price hike, the company admits that the new Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) will not fully offset the expenses associated with producing the Switch 2. During a recent financial results presentation, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa expressed regret over the inconvenience this may cause to customers. He mentioned that while their aim was to encourage widespread adoption, sustaining the increasing costs over time became a significant challenge. The adjusted pricing does not completely reflect all the cost escalations.

In 2026, like many other hardware manufacturers, Nintendo is grappling with a combination of factors that have compelled them to raise prices. The global shortage of essential components, a devalued yen, and escalating oil prices have collectively driven up the costs of technology. Furukawa highlighted that the heightened price point could pose an additional barrier for potential buyers. However, Nintendo remains optimistic that a strong lineup of software offerings will enhance the value proposition for Switch 2 owners. Come September, the price of a Switch 2 in the US will climb from $450 to $500.
