New Spyro Game to Feature True Dragon Flight Gameplay

The announcement of a new Spyro the Dragon game in more than two decades during the Xbox Game Showcase is aiming high with the confirmation that it will feature "true dragon flight" gameplay for the first time.

The developers at Toys For Bob revealed that the upcoming Spyro game, titled Spyro: A Realm Beyond, will introduce a unique dragon flight mechanic, unlike anything seen in other games. Studio head Paul Yan mentioned that the challenge was to capture the physicality and nimbleness of Spyro while ensuring the flying experience felt authentic to being a dragon.

Compared to previous Spyro titles that focused on 3D platforming with limited flight, Spyro: A Realm Beyond promises a new level of verticality and freedom in its gameplay. The game's creative director, Lou Studdert, emphasized the importance of maintaining Spyro's essence in flight, distinguishing him from characters like Iron Man or traditional flight simulators.

Additionally, the game will feature voice actor Tom Kenny reprising his role as the voice of Spyro, adding to the nostalgic appeal for fans. Spyro: A Realm Beyond is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
