New Perfect Dark and Co-Op Doom Projects Reportedly in Development at

Doom: The Dark Ages just received the Revelations expansion earlier this week, the latest work from prominent developer id Software.

Doom developer id Software was reportedly exploring new projects before the recent mass layoffs. These included a new Perfect Dark game, a co-op or multiplayer-focused Doom version, and a John Wick-inspired game called Fury. However, the future of these projects seems uncertain after 136 people were let go as part of the Xbox reset plan led by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. More than half of id Software's staff were affected, with reports describing the situation as a 'bloodbath.'

Former id Software principal VFX artist Derek Best mentioned on LinkedIn that Microsoft is downsizing the studio after the layoffs, with plans to turn it into a support studio. The Perfect Dark project emerged following the closure of The Initiative, with concept art already in progress. Additionally, the proposed game Fury, spearheaded by Hugo Martin, combined elements of sci-fi, noir, and gangster themes from Louisiana and Chicago. Despite not receiving official approval from Microsoft, the project was in development.

The layoffs at id Software may also signal changes for the iconic id Tech engine. Other studios impacted by the recent job cuts include Obsidian Entertainment and ZeniMax Online Studios.
