Netflix has another big-budget comic book adaptation in the works, with the streamer giving a series order to Barbaric, based on the Vault Comics title.
Netflix is set to adapt the fantasy series Barbaric from Vault Comics, as announced during the streamer's upfront presentation to advertisers. The official logline hints at a story of a barbarian cursed to use his violence for good, embarking on a journey of self-discovery and redemption alongside his talking axe and a young witch.
The original Barbaric comic, created by Michael Moreci and Nathan Gooden, will be brought to life by writer and executive producer Sheldon Turner, alongside Robert Rovner and Jennifer Klein. The show will follow Owen, a reformed warrior wielding a talking axe and teaming up with a troubled witch named Soren.
Initial news of the Barbaric series emerged in 2024, with casting rumors including Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart. However, no official cast announcements have been made yet, and a release date for the Netflix adaptation is still pending.
