A new update coming to Minecraft is adding something the game has never had in its 17-year history: the ability to sit down.
A new update for Minecraft will introduce a long-awaited feature - the ability for players to sit down. Producer Gustav Höglund revealed in a video that players will soon be able to craft cushions to sit on, offering a more immersive sitting experience than previous workarounds like sitting in a boat or mine cart. The update will include 16 different cushion colors crafted from wool slabs, providing players with new building possibilities. This update comes amidst changes at Xbox, with Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, undergoing layoffs and now reporting directly to Xbox CEO Asha Shamra.
As part of the restructuring, Minecraft studio head Helen Chiang has been promoted to the chief operating officer at Xbox. This move aims to consolidate businesses under one operating model to improve decision-making processes and accountability. Despite the changes, Minecraft remains a hugely successful franchise, with hundreds of millions of copies sold and the upcoming release of Minecraft Dungeons 2 in September. The popular game has also expanded into other media, with a successful Minecraft Movie released in 2025 and a sequel planned for 2027.
