Microsoft Introduces Ads to Xbox in a New Way, Ensuring Uninterrupted

Microsoft has rolled out a test for its free, ad-supported version of cloud gaming.

Microsoft has initiated a trial for its ad-supported cloud gaming service, available to select Xbox Insider members starting today. The ads are displayed before gameplay sessions without disrupting the gaming experience, unlike traditional TV or movie streaming platforms. Each session is currently limited to one hour, allowing players to access games they already own for free in exchange for watching ads. This test version, which was previously accessible to Microsoft employees, is now being extended to the public for further evaluation.

According to Microsoft, cloud gaming presents a more affordable alternative amid rising console prices due to hardware constraints. By leveraging cloud streaming, players can access the latest games without investing in new hardware, although a stable internet connection is necessary. Microsoft emphasized that the ad-supported model is entirely optional, with players having the choice to opt-out by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass or purchasing games outright.

The company outlined its advertising principles, ensuring that ads enhance player value, do not disrupt gameplay, maintain quality standards, and align with platform expectations. Microsoft aims to gather feedback from users during the trial to enhance the service further and provide more cost-effective gaming options to a broader audience.
