Michael Pennington — better known to Star Wars fans as Return of the Jedi's Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod — has died aged 82, The Telegraph has reported.

British actor Michael Pennington, famous for his role as Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, has passed away at the age of 82. Pennington portrayed Jerjerrod, the Commander of Death Star II, in the iconic film. Despite limited screen time, his character played a crucial role in hyping up the Emperor's arrival on the Death Star.

Deleted scenes from Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi revealed that Jerjerrod could have had a more significant role, including a scene where he confronts Darth Vader. Pennington, primarily known for his work in theater and television, embraced his Star Wars role despite his extensive Shakespearean acting career.

Pennington, who was married to actor Katharine Baker and had one son, also appeared in productions like The Return of Sherlock Holmes and The Iron Lady. He reportedly declined a role alongside Meryl Streep to perform as Hamlet, emphasizing his dedication to the Royal Shakespeare Company.
