Media Molecule's Next Game to Feature Open-World Content

Sony's first-party studio, Media Molecule, is reportedly working on a brand-new game with open-world elements.

According to a report by MP1st, a current Media Molecule employee's resume hints at the studio's upcoming project, featuring 'open-world content.' While fans have hoped for a return to LittleBigPlanet, the new game is confirmed to be a new IP, diverging from the studio's previous works. Media Molecule is known for empowering players to create within their games, as seen in titles like LittleBigPlanet and Dreams.

The resume suggests a shift towards a larger scale for the studio, departing from the smaller-scale projects like Dreams. Although Sumo Digital handled recent entries like LittleBigPlanet 3 and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Media Molecule might surprise fans with a new direction. Previous statements hint that the game has been in development since 2023, possibly making an appearance at the upcoming State of Play event.

While details remain scarce, the new game is anticipated to be distinct from Media Molecule's previous releases. Meanwhile, Sony continues work on the PlayStation 6, with the launch date still under consideration.
