Marvel's Wolverine Actor Shares Insight into Terrifying Performance

Like several other first-party Sony games, Marvel's Wolverine relied on motion-capture work to draw an authentic performance from its cast. Spartacus actor Liam McIntyre plays the iconic mutant in Insomniac's new game, and in a recent interview, he explained how the role required him to dig deep to find the feral side of Wolverine that erupts from him whenever he enters a berserker state.

Spartacus actor Liam McIntyre, who portrays Wolverine in Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine game, shared insights into the challenging process of embodying the character. McIntyre's portrayal, which initially drew inspiration from rabid dogs, was described as terrifying by the team at Insomniac Games. Despite his initial apprehension, McIntyre praised the supportive environment at the studio, allowing him to take significant creative risks with his character.

Marvel's Wolverine animation director Brian Wyser and narrative director Walt Williams commended McIntyre for delivering a performance that captured both the raw intensity and the emotional depth of Wolverine's character. The game, set for release on September 15 for PS5, follows Wolverine as he reunites with Team X to thwart Sentinel creator Bolivar Trask's plans to abduct mutants worldwide. Facing adversaries like The Hand and the Reavers, Wolverine takes center stage in a narrative that explores his internal struggles and external conflicts.
