LEGO's Star Wars theme exemplifies this trend, offering popular 18+ builds like the $250 N1 Starfighter set inspired by The Mandalorian. Adult LEGO sets stand out for their intricate details, requiring immense creativity to replicate movie scenes with plastic bricks. IGN interviewed LEGO Star Wars designer César Soares to delve into the design process. While focusing on Star Wars, Soares also shared his involvement in crafting LEGO Ideas sets such as the Tree House, Seinfeld, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Soares, known for his work on adult builds, previously created his own MOCs before joining LEGO. The LEGO Ideas series features community-submitted designs, including some of the most sought-after adult sets in the market.
The LEGO Treehouse, released in 2019, remains a standout creation detached from any franchise, now a collector's item post its 2024 retirement. The LEGO Seinfeld set, replicating Jerry's apartment, was retired in 2022 after inspiring stop motion recreations. Lastly, The Nightmare Before Christmas set, another Soares creation, stands as a unique and detailed tribute to Tim Burton's classic film.
