IDW Unveils New Era for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at Comic-Con 2026

2027 is already shaping up to be a monumental year for IDW Publishing's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line.

IDW Publishing revealed exciting plans for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series at Comic-Con 2026. The current writer, Gene Luen Yang, will conclude his story with issue #24, passing the baton to new writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Juann Cabal for TMNT #25. Additionally, the final volume of TMNT: The Last Ronin trilogy is set to premiere in 2027, with the original creative team returning to wrap up the futuristic saga.

Rosenberg expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute his unique perspective to the franchise following the success of the 2024 relaunch. He aims to build on the distinct approaches of previous writers while introducing fresh elements to the narrative. Yang, reflecting on his time with the series, emphasized the ever-evolving nature of working on such an iconic property and the importance of honoring its legacy.

Both writers highlighted the versatility of the TMNT universe, which allows for diverse storytelling styles across different media adaptations. Rosenberg teased that his upcoming arc will prominently feature New York City as a character, showcasing familiar landmarks and neighborhoods as the backdrop for the Turtles' adventures.
