Sony is phasing out disc production for PlayStation games by 2028, but Mortal Shell 2 is one of the titles still launching on physical media. Developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack announced on July 16 that the demand for the physical PS5 release of Mortal Shell 2 exceeded expectations, leading to a sellout of the $70 Revered Edition. This edition includes extra items like a collector’s tuck-in box, a steelbook case, art prints, and a physical artbook.
While the base game is still available for preorder at $50, the Revered Edition is either listed as 'coming soon' or unavailable at retailers like Best Buy and GameStop. Cold Symmetry mentioned that due to the release date of August 20 and the time needed for manufacturing, it's unlikely that additional physical copies will be available before launch. The studio is working with its distribution partner to assess ongoing demand and will provide updates accordingly.
Mortal Shell 2 is a sequel to the 2020 game Mortal Shell, offering a unique souls-like experience where players can equip different 'shells' to alter gameplay. An open beta is currently available on Steam, offering a Flayed Harbinger skin and the option to skip the prologue in the full game upon completion.
