A new multiplayer project set in the Halo universe, codenamed 'Ekur,' has been canceled by Halo Studios. Originally stemming from a project called 'Tatanka,' which was battle royale-inspired, Ekur aimed to offer a large-scale team battle experience drawing from Halo's multiplayer legacy. Despite inspirations from Halo 5's Warzone mode and development in Unreal Engine, the project faced challenges and was ultimately halted due to staff shifts to Campaign Evolved. The future of Ekur remains uncertain, with possibilities of revival given Microsoft's focus on revitalizing its key franchises.
While Halo Infinite's servers are still operational, the game's multiplayer community is dwindling. With Microsoft's upcoming Xbox console, the decision to shelve Halo's multiplayer raises questions about the franchise's direction. Campaign Evolved, a single-player/co-op title, contrasts with the shelved multiplayer project, leaving competitive Halo fans anticipating future updates.
