Guillermo Del Toro Requests Easier Mode for Dead Cells and Motion Twin

Whether you're a veteran gamer or not, it's okay to admit that Motion Twin's 2018 roguelike-metroidvania Dead Cells is kinda hard.

Acclaimed filmmaker and gamer Guillermo del Toro asked Motion Twin to make Dead Cells more forgiving for older players. In response, Motion Twin highlighted the existing Assist Mode, which allows players to resurrect at the nearest checkpoint instead of restarting the entire run. This feature was part of the Accessibility Update released in June 2022, offering various options for players to customize their gameplay experience.

Del Toro's plea for an easier version of Dead Cells led to Motion Twin's acknowledgment of the Assist Mode's availability. The studio expressed gratitude for del Toro's interest in the game and provided information on how the feature works. Alongside Assist Mode, the 2.9 patch included additional accessibility features like adjusting enemy damage, an auto-hit setting, and expanding the parry window.

While del Toro is known for his film work, he has also been involved in the video game industry. His notable contributions include co-directing P.T. with Hideo Kojima and making a cameo appearance in Death Stranding. Motion Twin's response to del Toro's request showcases their commitment to enhancing player experience and accessibility in Dead Cells.
