GTA Online In-game Gambling Disabled in Australia

Rockstar has unexpectedly blocked in-game gambling features in GTA Online for players accessing the game from Australia.

Australians can no longer access gambling mini-games in GTA Online’s Diamond Casino, including blackjack, slots, poker, roulette, or the Inside Track horse racing mode. The free-to-spin lucky wheel has also been disabled.

These features had been available in Australia for the past seven years since the introduction of the casino location in GTA Online in The Diamond Casino & Resort update on July 23, 2019. Despite the block on gambling, other casino functionalities and missions remain playable.

The sudden restriction in July 2026 follows the implementation of the country's new online safety code in March, which mandated age verification mechanisms to restrict minors from accessing adult content. This change also comes almost two years after the introduction of new regulations in September 2024 that required gambling-like content in video games to have minimum age classifications.

Despite GTA Online already being rated R18+ in Australia, the sudden block on gambling mini-games has raised questions about the reason behind this decision. Rockstar has been requested by IGN for clarification on this matter.

Australia now joins a list of approximately 50 countries where GTA Online’s casino betting features are disabled, including Portugal, Poland, Argentina, and more. While online casino gaming is illegal in Australia under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (Cth), GTA Online’s Diamond Casino operates differently, with in-game currency used for gambling activities that cannot be converted into real money.
