Everyone knows that Rockstar's GTA 6 is going to be an enormous hit upon launch in November this year, but just how big are we talking?
A new report from research firm Newzoo predicts that GTA 6 could earn between $3.3 billion - $5.2 billion in global sales in its first week, surpassing GTA 5's $1 billion in 72 hours back in 2013. Newzoo attributes this forecast to strong preorder numbers, estimating $180 million in digital spending in the US and top European markets. The game is classified as a 'Proven Sequel,' expected to follow a sales trajectory similar to its predecessor.
Newzoo estimates that preorder numbers suggest GTA 6 could sell 51 million copies by launch week, generating $4.5 billion in sales. Even under a more conservative projection, the game is expected to reach $3.3 billion in sales volume with 37 million units sold. Despite some uncertainty, GTA 6 is poised to exceed expectations and outperform forecasts.
Addressing rumors, Newzoo refuted claims that GTA 6 amassed over $1 billion in preorder revenue within three weeks of preorders opening. Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar, has not disclosed any preorder sales figures but may provide an update during its August earnings briefing. GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pricing options of $80 for the standard edition and $100 for the premium edition, including extra digital content. All preorders come with an auto-renewing membership and the game is exclusively digital, without physical copies available.
